Shane Houghton announced that this season would have an additional 30 half hour episodes, similar to the first season, bringing over 60 episodes from both of the series' seasons, with 120 11 minute segments in total. Production on Season 2 began on August 1, 2019.

On May 18, 2018, the series was renewed for a second season ahead of its season 1 premiere. This was also the final season released in its entirety before shifting to groups of episodes from Season 3 onward. This season was released to Disney+ on May 21, 2021. Also, an ad break is added right after the theme song to compensate with this and to make more time for commercials. In addition to the new method, starting this season as with all late-2021 animated Disney productions, during Disney Channel airings, the end credits are now "marginalized" and appear on the bottom third of the screen during the last 30 seconds of the show. Because of this, the seasons are now divided into three halves, with episodes 1-10 making up the first part, episodes 11-20 making up the second part, and episodes 21-30 making up the last part. Season 2 also marks the start of Disney Channel's new "binge-watching" method of episode airing, in which instead of releasing 2-4 new episodes a month after production, the crew now has to write, record, and animate a total of 8-10 episodes and release them all at once.

Like the first season, this season comprises 30 half-hours with 58 episode segments, 56 11-minute episodes and two full half-hour episodes (" Green Christmas" and " Chipocalypse Now"). However, they soon realize he tricked them into accepting his apology that he's sorry for their actions so that he can run them out of town with all the power he has (" Friend Con") at the end of the second half, Chip takes over Big Coffee and plots an expansion plan which will be right where the Greens' house currently stands, and the family must defeat him once and for all (" Chipwrecked" and " Chipocalypse Now"). Season 2 is also the point which officially sets Chip Whistler up as the main antagonist of the show, in which the Greens help Chip get the position of CEO of Wholesome Foods and take over for his retiring father (" Reckoning Ball").
A few characters who appeared in the previous season appear in this season, including new characters like Gwendolyn Zapp and Mayor Hansock. In addition to themed episodes, the season is the first to focus on other characters outside of the Green family the first notable instance of this is " Spaghetti Theory", an episode revolving around the many minor faces of Big City. In comparison to the first season, this season features more "themed" episodes, including a musical Christmas special and a CGI-themed game episode (" Green Christmas" and " Level Up" respectively), and more episodes focusing on specific topics like swindling and swearing (" Flimflammed" and " Bleeped" respectively).
